Living in West Kelowna
West Kelowna is its own city, incorporated in 2007, made up of several distinct communities — Westbank at the centre, with Shannon Lake, Smith Creek, Glenrosa and Lakeview Heights around it. The reason most buyers look here is simple arithmetic: the same money buys a bigger, newer home than it does on the Kelowna side.
Each community has its own feel. Shannon Lake is newer and built around the golf course and the lake it's named for. Smith Creek climbs the hill above it. Glenrosa is further up and further out, with more land per dollar. Westbank is the commercial heart, where the everyday shopping and services are. Treat them as separate places when you're comparing, because they behave differently.

Anyone whose budget doesn't stretch as far as they'd like on the Kelowna side, and who can absorb a bridge crossing in the daily routine.

What's actually here.
Full retail and grocery in Westbank. Two Eagles and Shannon Lake golf. Lake access at several regional parks and beaches, generally less crowded than the Kelowna side. Wineries along the Boucherie stretch.
Schools, parks and services in the catchment are listed on the school district's site — worth checking directly, since catchments change.
Teagan's take
The west side is where I take buyers who've been told their budget doesn't work. Often it works fine over here — it just buys a different address than the one they had in their head, and after a month nobody cares.
Run the honest commute maths before you decide. If you cross the bridge twice a day, five days a week, that's real hours and real fuel over a year. If you work from home or work on this side, the calculation flips entirely and West Kelowna is straightforwardly better value. There's no universal answer — it depends on your week.
