Living in Wilden

Wilden is a master-planned community on the hillside above north Glenmore — hundreds of hectares of it, built out in phases since the early 2000s and still going. If you want a newer home in a place that was designed all at once rather than accumulated over sixty years, this is the clearest example of it in Kelowna.

The character comes from the planning. Homes are held to design guidelines, a large share of the land is kept as parkland and trail, and there are ponds and preserved forest inside the community rather than at the edge of it. The corollary is that it is entirely residential — there's no commercial centre, and everything from milk to a haircut is a drive down the hill.

Who it suits

Anyone who wants a newer or new-build home with trails at the door and a consistent streetscape, and doesn't mind driving for every errand.

Getting around

Down Glenmore Road for everything. Downtown is a straightforward run; UBCO and the airport are closer from here than from most of the south end of the city.

Amenities

What's actually here.

Trails, ponds and parkland inside the community itself. Everything else — groceries, schools, services — is down in Glenmore, a few minutes away.

Schools, parks and services in the catchment are listed on the school district's site — worth checking directly, since catchments change.

Teagan's take

What Wilden actually sells is predictability. You know what the street will look like in five years, because the guidelines say so. Some buyers find that reassuring and some find it sterile, and there's no wrong answer — but it's worth knowing which one you are before you commit, because it doesn't change.

Two things to check. If you're buying into an active phase, ask what's still to be built next to and above you, and what the timeline is — construction traffic is temporary but it isn't brief. And as with any hillside address here, ask about insurance and FireSmart work early rather than at the financing stage.

No pressure, no pitch. Just a conversation.

Twenty minutes, on your schedule. Even if you're twelve months out.
